The “Stop” Text That Didn’t Work — What to Track When Robocalls Keep Coming

The frustration: you opted out, but the messages keep coming

You reply “STOP” and the texts keep coming. Or you block the number and new numbers appear. If you’re getting repeated robocalls or marketing texts, you may have rights under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

What to track (this is the difference between a hunch and a case)

Create a simple log. Include:

  • Date/time of each call or text
  • The number it came from
  • Screenshots of the messages
  • Whether you ever gave consent (and how)
  • When you opted out (save the “STOP” message)

Common consent traps

  • Fine print on a web form
  • “By providing your number…” language near a checkbox
  • Old business relationships
  • Lead generators selling your info

Practical steps you can take today

  • Screenshot everything before it disappears
  • Don’t click links in suspicious texts
  • Keep your carrier’s spam reports
  • Save any voicemail recordings

What not to do

  • Don’t assume blocking the number fixes the legal issue
  • Don’t delete messages out of frustration

If you’ve opted out and the calls or texts keep coming, Ginsburg Law Group, PC can review your call/text history and help you understand whether TCPA protections may apply.
